"MAD ABOUT ART" - Friday 23rd-sunday 25th May 2025

I will be the artist in residence for the weekend commencing on the evening of Friday 23rd May 2025 and running through to lunch time on Sunday the 25th 2025.

This workshop will build on the successful workshop we ran in November last year.

Again it will be suitable for beginners as well as more experienced artists. I will be covering the basics of expressive drawing and the application of washes. I have been experimenting with using watercolour on Canvas which I am finding intriguing. Although I will be concentrating on watercolour, the fundamentals of this workshop can be applicable for all mediums.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED. I will be demonstrating to help with understanding these concepts

1) Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting . Application of washes
2) Design and composition 
3) Light and dark, tonal understanding, Juxtaposing opposites - the Yin and Yang of painting.
4) Reflected light, often poorly understood, but so important for connecting various elements in your artworks.
5) Embracing your mistakes. This is the fun side of painting where your errors lead you down another path. A bit like getting lost in a new city you have never been to.
6) Use of highlights which can be dark lights when added to light areas

7) plus more if we have time

Please bring whatever paints and paper or boards you are comfortable with using.

I will provide acid free cartridge paper and charcoal for drawing.

I will send out a materials list closer to the workshop. Participants will be able to purchase a 300gm Fabriano watercolour paper for $15 per sheet.

A workshop pack will be available for $30 and will include use of some of my brushes and access to artist quality pigments (Winsor and Newton) for the duration of the workshop. This will encourage participants to be generous with their use of quality pigments and paper which will facilitate the production of quality art works.
